by Steve Hubner

This is an inspiring book. Beginning in 1989, Steve has taken a lightly grazed cow pasture and restored it to one of the premiere mesic prairies east of the Mississippi River. Initially, Steve recognized the site's potential because of its abundance of indicator species: especially rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccafolium).

Featuring Steve's photographs from every season, Steve's e-book leads the viewer through a remarkable tour, describing his work--fencing, cutting brush, hand pulling and herbiciding weeds, burning--and sharing his passion for the results: a glimpse of what much of the region once looked like.

Dower's Prairie is not near a road. There is no public access. This book is Steve's way to invite you to experience Dower's Prairie.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this book will go towards permanent protection of this prairie.

This is an inspiring book. Over the past thirty years, Steve has taken a lightly grazed cow pasture and restored it to one of the premiere mesic prairies east of the Mississippi River. Initially, Steve recognized the site's potential because of its abundance of indicator species: especially rattlesnake master.

Featureing Steve's photographs from every season, he leads the viewer through a remarkable tour, describing his work--fencing, cutting brush, hand pulling and herbiciding weeds, burning--and sharing his passion for the results: a glimpse of what much of the region once looked like.
